Employees around the world have been taking part in activities that are helping to reduce mankind’s impact on the environment:
- Beach cleaning
- Cycling tour
- Car pool
During April of 2008, 200 Mio employees, Mio club members and other members of the public gathered on one of Taiwan’s Northern beaches to collect garbage strewn across it. Groups of 20 were organized to clean the beach and then teach people how they can re-use their trash by making a display. By the end of the day, over 600kg of material had been collected, of which 293.4kg could be recycled.
In order to promote the reduction in carbon emissions and a healthier lifestyle, Mio employees regularly join cycle tours around the world. And since cycling for both leisure and commuting are becoming more fashionable, the amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere is decreasing.
Many of Mio’s employees who live close to one another and share similar work schedules are being encouraged to take part in company car pool programs to reduce the number of cars on the road and reduce CO2 emissions. Once they’ve joined the program, participants are awarded points for each trip they make; these points can then be redeemed for highway toll tickets.
Since many people travel to work on their own, sharing the passenger seat not only helps to reduce exhaust fumes and congestion, but can also save money for drivers, since two or more people share the cost of the journey.
Regular education seminars and movies are organized for employees to educate them on environmental issues
and help unite them in a common cause.
