A Greener Mio




Improvements in e‐documentation throughout Mio are reducing the amount of paper used annually by 36,840 sheets. That’s 375cm high or the equivalent of 2 average sized men standing on top of one another.

Taiwan’s residents get through 100 billion pairs or 29 million trees worth of disposable chopsticks every year. At Mio we are helping to do our bit by stopping the supply of disposable chopsticks in staff restaurants and encouraging staff to bring in their own reusable ones. This not only helps to prevent trees being destroyed but also reduces the chemicals used in their manufacture.
In China many of MiTAC’s staff live in company dormitories. In order to reduce the amount of energy being used for heating hot water, solar panels have been installed therefore reducing heating costs by 75% and saving overall power consumption.

Out go the fluorescent tubes and in come the LED’s. Whilst standard fluorescent tubes are quite energy efficient, they do contain mercury,which can be hazardous if disposed of carelessly, so in our China offices LED light tubes are being introduced to replace the fluorescent tubes. With an energy saving of 20% per tube they are an investment worth making.

Many of Mio’s offices are open 24/7, and although the night time use of water fountains was minimal the water was still being heated, so timer switches were introduced to save energy. Every little counts!

The use of single analogue air conditioning controls was proving inefficient, so the introduction of digital controls over multiple units provides the offices with greater control and less wastage.
Mio’s new Belgium office has been especially designed to collect the rain and use it for the flushing of toilets. Each of the 12 toilets uses approximately 3 gallons of water per flush, so that’s an awful lot of water that is being saved.

Lights being left on waste a lot of energy. Sensor controlled lights in meeting rooms and offices are being introduced to help reduce the amount of energy consumed.
